The South Dakota Secretary of State issued a Press Release on Monday, January 6, 2020 to announce that the petitions related to medical and recreational cannabis amendments to the State Constitution have made it onto the 2020 ballot.
Secretary of State, Steve Barnett, wrote, "“As outlined in South Dakota Codified Law § 2-1-16, our office conducted a random sample of the petition signatures and found 68.74 percent to be valid,”.
Opponents of the legalization measure have until February 5 at 5 PM to file any challenges to the measure.
The full information about the Medical and Adult Use Measures are posted on the South Dakota Secretary of State's website.
The medical measure would allow adults to possess up to 1 ounce of cannabis and to grow up to 3 plants. The adult use measure would institute a 15% tax on cannabis items.
