Courts have already figured out that weed consumers are not criminals. That's why cannabis arrests are down. Expungment of aged marijuana violations for citizens is now a regular topic and thing.
When Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears decided to stop criminalizing his neighbors for pot citations in order to fight "violent crimes" better, his Indiana GOP counterparts decided to take matters into their own hands.
How does a ruling party enforce its will over a county prosecutor? The GOP decided the best solution would be to appoint special prosecutors to go after weed people via the attorney general's office- a total override of the current authority held by people like Mr. Mears. Sounds like a firing squad for potheads?
The very idea of creating a special instance of law enforcement to specifically discriminate against cannabis consumers, and to criminalize another generation of Indiana people demonstrates a lack of compassion in the Indiana Republican party.
Within the consumer side of weed are lots of patients. Criminalizing Epileptics is what they are saying is fine. Put those Crohn's and Cancer patients who use doctor recommended medical cannabis in jail- fine them- hang by the borders of legal weed states and arrest and prosecute pot tourists as they return home- is what the GOP in Indiana is conveying.
Should Indiana vote these politicians out? Is this a good use of taxpayer funds?
Maybe they should focus on their meth problem.
