Illinois legalization is in its early days with a limited number of retailers and supply chain vendors currently operating.

That did not stop dispensaries from ringing in nearly $40 million in January of 2020 alone.

Over time, Illinois' Cannabis Control spokesperson Toi Hutchinson said that more entrepreneurs would be going live with businesses to expand the industry's reach.

Roughly 80% of the marijuana vended in Illinois was consumed by residents, while $8.6 million was garnered from out of state visitors.

Hutchinson encouraged founders to enter the industry throughout the supply chain such as in logistics, cultivation and other areas of the rapidly expanding vertical.

Brightfield Group emphasized that the population density of Illinois, and the Midwest in general, is a key element for both THC and CBD sales growth in the region.

Social equity provisions ensure that the Illinois taxes generated have a usage category specifically for helping people who were impacted by the Drug War and Prohibition.

Illinois recently approved its first cannabis consumption lounge license, so perhaps some of the people visiting from unelightened states will hang out and sesh for longer in Illinois thereby supporting the local business community.

Legalization is not just an economic win for dispensary owners and regulators, as it also generates additional value for local merchants.
