Doctor Prescribed Medical Marijuana Intake Results In Pending Termination For Marine Corps Veteran

Legal Weed States Discriminate Against Patients Due To Lack Of Worker Protections

A former U.S. Marine Corps member, and aspiring high school principal, was legally prescribed medical marijuana for PTSD and then placed on unpaid leave for following his doctor's orders.

Mike Hickman served in the Marine Corps during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and was recommended to take medical cannabis to treat PTSD by his doctor. He sustained a shoulder injury and was a patient to treat it while he was employed by Belleview High School in Florida.

The school drug tests its workers and yes Mr. Hickman tested positive for cannabinoids.  Of course he did.  His doctor recommended MMJ afterall to treat issues sustained in the line of duty.

Unfortunately, the Superintendent of Schools recommended his firing when the test came back positive for his medicine that he has legally prescribed. Hickman had invested $10,000 in continuing education in order to qualify for a promotion.  Since he is now on unpaid leave as he appeals his pending termination, the U.S. Marine Corp Veteran has no income.

While his case is working its way through the courts, Mr. Hickman will continue to suffer loss of income.  His privacy as a legal patient of a regulated medicine in a legal weed state ought to be as protected as any other patient consuming medicine that their doctors recommended.

Perhaps this case will be a breakthrough for legal weed patients when a court ultimately rules that the school will have violated Mr. Hickman's rights as a patient and citizen.  As a matter of how to treat our Veterans, the decision to terminate Hickman from our point of view here at WeedClub News is that the Superintendent who terminated Hickman ought to be the one terminated.

The rules need to change in order to ensure that patient privacy is protected.  Civil Rights, human rights and Veterans' rights are at stake.
