Colorado MMJ Entrepreneur Funds CSU Medical Cannabis Research

CSU Graduate Donates $1.5M To Study Cannabinoids

Things sure have changed in Colorado from pre-legalization conditions.  Many charities, politicians, and schools have rejected or returned donations stemming from legal weed companies over the years.  In the case of Colorado State University alumni Leslie Buttorff funding a new CBD Research Center at CSU however, both the donor and the institutional aide recipient are eager to collaborate.

Prohibition has had a chilling effect on medical cannabis research.  Anti-legalization Board Members at institutions, combined with threats by Federal policy-makers to revoke funding, have meant that new discoveries about the plant have been lagging behind the times.

Imagine leveraging genome scanning and research studies, along with other accepted medical techniques, to harness the many chemicals present in marijuana for good.  Epilepsy has been the first condition to have a U.S. approved pharmaceutical grade drug derived directly from cannabis.  Scientists, researchers, and doctors- along with caregivers searching for help for their patients too- are eager to do the work to make scientific advances based on cannabinoids as their active ingredients in new medicines.

A lack of Federal funding in the U.S. means we are behind other countries in the race to develop new formulations and possibly patents. Israel and Canada are fostering medical cannabis research and leading the way.  Even when federal approvals have been received historically, such as in the case of Dr. Suzanne Sisley, MD, ultimately initial approvals would be revoked before Dr. Sisley would be able to conduct her research.  After 10 years of preparations, Dr. Sisley was finally able to conduct her study

Despite unreasonable tax rules around medical cannabis, it is encouraging to learn about the early pioneers starting to give back to the industry.  The public benefit of increased understanding of cannabinoids should lead to breakthroughs for patients.

Thank you from us here at WeedClub News to Ms. Buttorff, CEO of Panacea Life Sciences in Colorado for your exemplary best pracitices and for helping the industry to develop a better framework for existing in the first place.
